Install Straylock
You need a Mac on macOS 14 or later and an iPhone on iOS 17 or later. It takes about five minutes.
Mac
- Invites go out in waves. You'll get the Mac download link by email.
- Open the disk image and drag Straylock to Applications.
- Open Straylock. macOS may say it was downloaded from the internet; choose Open. Allow Bluetooth when macOS asks.
iPhone
- Invites go out in waves. You'll get the iPhone link by email.
- Open Straylock and allow Bluetooth.
- Leave the app open for now. After that you can lock the phone.
Pair
- With the iPhone app open in front, click the Straylock icon in the Mac's menu bar, choose Settings, then Pair iPhone.
- Approve the prompt on the iPhone.
- The Mac says "iPhone connected" and the iPhone shows your Mac as "Connected".
Check
- Put the iPhone in your pocket and walk to another room. Your Mac should lock within about 20 seconds.
- Come back and unlock it with Touch ID.
If something is off
- No menu bar icon. The notch can hide it. Open Straylock again to get Settings, or hold Cmd and drag other menu bar icons off to make room.
- The iPhone says "Not connected". Open the iPhone app so it's in front, and check that Bluetooth is on for both.
- Force-quitting the iPhone app stops Straylock. Open the app again to start it.
- The Mac says the last lock didn't work. Follow the steps it shows in Settings.
